My name is Anita Vagvolgyi. I am a qualified, REPs registered personal trainer and XPERT qualified pole dancing instructor with a keen interest in bodyweight training.
When I was 17 I started breakdancing and did it for 3 years, when due to an injury I had to stop and didn’t exercise at all for 6 years until I finally worked up the courage to go to a poledancing class that I’ve wanted to do for years. I fell in love with it straight away. It gave me the same satisfaction and excitement what breakdancing did.
I instantly felt part of a supportive community where I could get strong, learn new skills and push my body to do things I’ve never thought it would be able to do. I felt the same passion as before and wanted to enhance my knowledge about the human body and what it’s capable of so I completed a personal trainer course and got qualified to teach pole dancing as well as other disciplines.
As I got into pole dancing more and more I discovered calisthenics and street workout as well. What these athletes are capable of doing using only their body weight is truly fascinating. This gave me the push to dive deeper into bodyweight exercises and apply some of those techniques to poledancing as well.
Unfortunately an old injury flared up towards the end of 2017 coupled with tendinopathy in my shoulder and a few months later in my wrist too. This experience reminded me of how important injury prevention is. I had to have a few months off only doing rehab. I used this time to research more into the demands of what pole and calisthenics put on our bodies and how we can avoid injuries. I try to include some of this into my sessions to help and educate others.
In October 2018 I left my job as a prison officer and started working at Swingdon school of pole and in March I joined Mill view pole academy too. In my main job I work as a physical activity specialist focusing on weight loss management classes in the community. I am planning to launch a move library and online training soon – watch this space.
